It is for us great pleasure to welcome all choirs to the International Choral Festival Costa Rica for Peace 2020, a non-competitive showcase. From start to finish, choirs are taken care by the organization. Our team of Festival Guides and Volunteers will ensure each delegation gets happily involved in all activities prepared. Selected choirs are expected to take part in the entire Festival Program. There will be singing, touring, workshops and fellowship.
Choirs of different ages and voicing are invited to participate based on the following guidelines. The festival selects a balance of children, youth and adult choirs from around the world.
Adult mixed voice choirs SATB
Male voice choirs, all ages
Female voice choirs, all ages
Youth voice choirs SSA or SATB (ages 6 to 25)
All choirs must have a minimum of 16 singers.
Each choir's performance must be a cappella. Each choir is free to choose their program between 15 to 30 minutes and include a song allusive to peace. Repertoire from native country is highly suggested. Should the choir's part of the performance require an instrument, this must be brought along. The festival final gala concert includes a common piece to sing together. This piece must be learned for a final assembling once all choirs meet in Costa Rica. The music score will be sent to each choir once we receive confirmation of participation in the festival.
Choirs are selected on the basis of their application material. (See: How to apply.) Particular attention is paid to the quality of performance presented on recording submitted with the application. If your choir is accepted to participate you will be notified via email in the next two weeks after applying. All applications are answered on a first come first serve basis, so we urge you to apply soonest possible.
APPLICATION DEADLINE: February 28th, 2020
Accepted choirs must confirm their participation in writing. A deposit of 30% of participation fee for the group must accompany this confirmation. If the confirmation and/or payment is not received by the due date given, the festival committee reserves the right to accept another ensemble on waiting list.
Performances: Concert organization for at least three different locations.
Transportation: Private a/c motorcoach with a professional driver for all transportation as described in itinerary, including round-trip transfer between the airport and hotel.
Accommodations: four nights in high quality hotels, in double/ triple occupancy.
Meals: daily Costarican style breakfast at hotel, dinners at hotel or at concert locations, festive farewell dinner after Gala Concert.
Festival Guide: full-time festival/tour guide to accompany each choir during entire duration of Festival.
Tourist attractions: in addition to the concert venues you will tour San Jose, Cartago, Orosi Valley, Ujarras, Grecia, Sarchi and Zarcero to mention a few.
Each participant must pay a USD$680 participation fee. "Participants" include singers, accompanists, spouses/supporters and chaperones. All conductors are our Special Guests and are exempt of this fee. Contact us for large groups of over 40 persons. All international travel costs are not covered in this fee. International air arrangements and costs are responsibility of the choir.
