Costa Rica International Choral Festival
For Peace 2020

It is for us great pleasure to welcome all choirs to the International Choral Festival Costa Rica for Peace 2020, a non-competitive showcase. From start to finish, choirs are taken care of by the organization. The festival program offers singing, touring, choral education presentations and workshops.

FESTIVAL DATES: June 22ND to 30th, 2020

CATEGORIES OF PARTICIPATION:

We invite all choral music performers from around the world to apply. Categories of performing choirs as follows.
Adult mixed voice choir SATB.
Adult men's choir.
Adult women's choirs.
Children's and Youth choirs SSA or SATB (ages 6 to 20s).
All choirs must have a minimum of 16 singers.

Thursday, JUNE 25th //  Opening Ceremony. Arrivals during day including those who went to Tortuguero on the scheduled pre-fest.   Tonight opening ceremony at 7pm. Welcome to all choirs and participants.

Friday, JUNE 26th // COSTA RICA CONCERTS FOR PEACE Breakfast. Choral Learning Session. before heading towards communities west of San José. Each choir will be delivering a didactic concert at different educational centers of the communities.  Afternoon for tourist visit. Concerts for peace tonight.

Saturday, JUNE 27th // COSTA RICA CONCERTS FOR PEACE      Breakfast at the hotel. Choral Learning Session. Today our visit is towards the east of San José, our old capital city Cartago, Orosi, Ujarrás valley in the foothills of the Irazú Volcano. Concerts for peace tonight.

Sunday, JUNE 28th// COSTA RICA CONCERTS FOR PEACE Breakfast. All choirs fellowship and joint rehearsal for common songs led by invited conductors.  Gala concert and awards, followed by festive closing ceremony.

Monday, JUNE 29th // Post Festival Touring  Breakfast at hotel and transfer to Juan Santamaria airport. OR continue to post festival touring. Enhance your visit in Costa Rica at a convenient group price, see below.

REPERTOIRE:

Each choir's performance must be a cappella. Choose a program between 15 to 30 minutes of music and include a song allusive to peace. Repertoire from native country is highly suggested. Should part of the performance require an instrument, this must be brought along by the choral group. Songs for peace and sacred music when venue is a church. The final gala concert will include songs to sing together. This music must be learned prior, for a final assembling once all choirs meet in Costa Rica. The music score will be sent to each choir once we receive confirmation of participation to the festival.

CRITERIA FOR SELECTION OF CHOIRS

Choirs are selected on application material with particular attention to the quality of performance presented on recording submitted. (See: How to apply.) The following criteria is used:
1. Skill level: intonation, vocal technique, quality of sound and technical ability.
2. Artistry: expressiveness, choreography, stage presence.
3. Repertoire: difficulty and complexity, diversity of styles presented.
If your choir is accepted to participate you will be notified via email in the next two weeks after applying.  All applications are answered on a first come first served basis.
EARLY BIRD Registration: Confirm participation by November 15th, 2019 and get a group discount of 5%. Discount applies to base plan, to be deducted on final invoice.
Last day to apply: February 28th, 2020.
Last day to confirm participation: March 15th, 2020

CONFIRM PARTICIPATION:

Accepted choirs must confirm their participation in writing. A deposit of 30% of participation fee for the group must accompany this confirmation. If the confirmation and/or payment is not received by the due date given, the organization reserves the right to accept another ensemble on waiting list.

FESTIVAL PARTICIPATION FEE INCLUDES:

Performances: Organization, logistics and advertisement for a minimum of three concerts.
Transportation: Private a/c motorcoach and driver services for all transportation as described in itinerary, including round-trip transfer between the airport and hotel. 
Accommodations: four nights in high quality hotels, in double, triple occupancy.
Meals: daily Costarican style breakfast at hotel, one meal (lunch or dinner) at hotel or at concert locations, festive farewell dinner after Gala Concert. 
Guide: certified guide who assists each choir throughout the festival.
Tourist attractions: in addition to the concert venue communities you will tour San Jose, Alajuela, Cartago, Grecia, Ujarras to mention a few.

PARTICIPANTS FEE:

Base Program costs USD$680 per participant. "Participants" include singers, accompanists, spouses/supporters and chaperones. A conductor of the choir is exempt of this fee, one per choir of min 16 participants. Contact us for large groups of over 40 persons. Also, get a discount for early bird confirmation. All international travel costs are not covered in this fee. International air arrangements and costs are responsibility of the choir.

PRE- POST FESTIVAL DAYS:

Upon initial payment, all participants agree to be bound to our Terms and Conditions Statement.
Each choir's performance must be a cappella.
Each choir is free to choose their program of between 15 to 30 minutes.
Piano or keyboard can be provided by the organization.
Repertoire from native country is highly suggested.
Participation fee included features based on proposed program.
All international travel costs are not covered by this fee.
A few meals, hotel extras, laundry services, additional tours or personal insurance is not covered in this fee.
The organizer reserves the right to make changes and amendments to the existing information material, festival program and schedule.
